A bassoonist has become an unlikely political figurehead after writing a comedy show based on the sit-in tax protest at Fortnum & Mason in March.

Ben Brailsford, 27, from Highgate, was among the 145 protesters arrested following the peaceful stunt at the Piccadilly store.

He is publicising the plight of those still facing charges by retelling his story in a humorous stage show, My Fortnum & Mason Hell, accompanied by a bassoon. It is playing at the Edinburgh Festival, timed to coincide with the appearance before Westminster magistrates tomorrow of the final 17 of 30 people charged with aggravated trespass. Charges against most have been dropped.

Brailsford said: "Considering what's going on with the riots right now these charges are ridiculous and need to be dropped." He is looking at bringing the show to London in November.
