Jam dating with new text service

Danielle Demetriou12 April 2012

Dating is poised to embrace new heights of technology with a service that lets motorists send anonymous text messages to other drivers.

Textjam members will be able to send a message indirectly to the mobile phones of motorists spotted in other vehicles whenever they choose, according to creator Mike Andrews. He said: "I was in Miami and a friend spotted an amazing-looking girl in a convertible. We wondered how to contact someone in another car."

Motorists can register free and are given a phone number to which they send a message. It is then forwarded to the person's mobile phone, if they are also a member. If they are not, the message is stored indefinitely and is revealed if they do choose to join.

Other uses include reporting parking problems, traffic jams, accidents or selling a car.

Dating agencies gave a mixed response. Toby Jones, of internet site wheresmydate. com, said: "It's an interesting idea, but I don't think the text-message craze will last much longer."
