JJB takes C&A Oxford Street store

JJB Sports is to open for business in C&A's vacant store in London's Oxford Street, creating its biggest outlet yet and a new flagship for the chain.

C&A now has tenants for both its stores on the street, as it has struck a deal to put Allders into the site at the Marble Arch end.

JJB will gain access in August after C&A's sister property company Redevco has spruced up the front of the building near Oxford Circus.

The retailer is taking on 35,000 square feet of property, comprising three floors and the sub-basement, which will be used for storage. Redevco is renovating the upper floors for office and residential use.

JJB property director Barry Dunn said his company's two existing stores on Oxford Street will continue trading in the near term. 'We have not decided yet whether to close them or not,' he said.

C&A finished shutting down its 109 UK stores last May. JJB took up three of them and other retailers, including Tesco and Primark, have also moved in.
