Kristin has ticket to ride as Lennon aunt homas stars as Lennon's aunt

Robert Mendick13 April 2012

The teenage years of John Lennon are being recreated in a film in which Kristin Scott Thomas plays the woman who raised him.

Thomas, 48, takes the role of his beloved Aunt Mimi, who brought up the Beatle from the age of five.

The teenage Lennon is played by Aaron Johnson, 18, who starred in romantic comedy Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging.

His mother Julia is played by Ann-Marie Duff in the production, which is directed by artist Sam Taylor-Wood. The screenplay, based on a book by Lennon's sister, has been written by Matt Greenhalgh, who won a Bafta for his biopic about Joy Division's Ian Curtis.

John was raised by Mimi and apparently grew up not knowing that his real mother lived round the corner.

Mimi, it is said, disapproved of her younger sister for "living in sin".
