Lightning victim was a Londoner

12 April 2012

The British hiker killed by lightning on a French mountain has been named as Andrew Pridmore - a father-of-four who moved to the country from London 20 years ago.

The 51-year-old had just reached the summit of the Canigou, in the Catalan Pyrenees of southern France, when he was hit and killed instantly by a bolt of lightning yesterday. A group of seven other climbers suffered injuries but survived.

Mr Pridmore was originally from Bromley in south-east London. A "wood artisan", he lived in Prades, six miles north of Mount Canigou - considered to be the spiritual home of the Catalan people.
