Rain brought services at several London Tube stations grinding to a halt this afternoon.

Eastbound trains were not stopping at Stepney Green, due to flooding on one of the station platforms.

Downpours also prompted the closure of the eastbound District line platform at Embankment station.

West Ham station was evacuated this afternoon due to flooding on the platform but a normal train service has now resumed.

Passengers have also reported flooding on the approach to Blackfriars station, although Transport for London said train services at the station had not been affected.

A TfL spokeswoman said: "I apologise to customers whose journeys have been disrupted this evening.

"Three of our stations have been closed or part-closed due to flooding, caused by the heavy rain.

"We're working to clear the water as quickly as possible so that services can return to normal.

"Passengers are advised to check the TfL website and social media feeds for the latest information."

The Met Office issued a yellow weather warning for London, which advises people to be prepared for potential travel disruption caused by rain.
