Long jump star is allergic to sand

Long-jump silver medal winner Jade Johnson has revealed an unfortunate side-effect of her dedication to her sport - she is allergic to sand.

The 22-year-old Dulwich athlete, who won silver in Munich last night to go with her silver at the Commonwealth Games, said: "It doesn't agree with me." Since she took up the sport as a 13-yearold, contact with sand brings Jade out in rashes and she has to dust herself down every time she gets out of the pit after a leap.

But nothing could dampen her delight in the European Championships. "I just have to get on with it," she said.
