Maureen Lipman to join the Street

Maureen Lipman is joining the Coronation Street cast to help run the Rovers Return, it was announced today.
The comedy actress, 56, will play relief manageress Lillian Spencer for eight episodes, filling the gap left by Julie Goodyear, who plays Bet Gilroy and is off sick with "exhaustion".
Miss Lipman, with a string of TV and stage credits, also memorably played Beattie in BT ads.
