Mystery driver saves two in fire

Police and firefighters are appealing for a mystery motorist who saved the lives of two crash victims when he used his fire extinguishers to put out their blazing car.

The driver "happened to have a van full of fire extinguishers" when he passed the scene of the crash on the M23 near Crawley on Tuesday afternoon.

Firefighters revealed the motorist used his haul to put out the Toyota which had burst into flames after hitting a large road sign.

A father and son in the car were taken to hospital with serious injuries after they were cut free from the wreckage at junction 10 of the northbound carriageway.
