New mum given wrong baby to feed

12 April 2012

A mother says she was deprived of "the wonderful moments" of her daughter's first hours after a nurse gave her the wrong baby to breast-feed.

Nathalie Brooks, 34, was horrified when she discovered the baby she was nursing at Eastbourne district hospital was not her newborn daughter Meadow.

Ms Brooks had been sleeping after her 40-hour labour when she was woken in the middle of the night by an agency nurse and handed a crying baby to feed.

She and her partner, Neil Carden, have officially complained to hospital chiefs, who blame the mix-up on the babies having similar surnames and are carrying out a check on procedures.
