Newham in £1.8m blunders

One of London's poorest boroughs has launched a legal battle to recover more than £1.8 million paid to landlords by mistake.

A High Court writ claims Newham overpaid Atlantic Lodge and also paid twice for some housing, costing it more than £2.2 million.

It has recovered £577,623 but £1,636,122 allegedly remains outstanding. The borough is also suing landlord Dabora Conway for more than £263,000 for alleged overpayments.
