'Offensive’ Diesel poster adverts banned

12 April 2012

Two posters for clothing label Diesel were banned for displaying images likely to cause "serious offence" to adults.

One of the ads showed a woman holding open her bikini bottoms with one hand to take a photograph. The second showed a woman exposing her breasts to a security camera.

Both were accompanied by text stating: "Smart may have the brains, but stupid has the balls. Be stupid. Diesel."

The Advertising Standards Authority said 33 people complained. The watchdog said the images were unsuitable to appear as posters because of the overt sexualisation involved.
