Other sex attacks on patients

? Ten days ago it was revealed that a grandmother suffering from terminal cancer was raped on a mixed ward at King's College Hospital, south London. The 71-year-old woman had been visiting the lavatory during the night of 1 May when she was pushed to the floor and assaulted. She was too terrified to tell anyone until three weeks later. The married grandmother had travelled to the hospital at the end of April to have an operation.

? A girl of 13 was raped as she visited a relative at Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge. The attack happened between Boxing Day 2001 and 8 January. The girl told detectives she was assaulted after a man pushed her into a lavatory cubicle.

? John Archibald was jailed for three years in April 2001 for raping the terminally ill wife of a TV presenter in a Buckinghamshire nursing home.

? Last year a man was jailed for the rape of a paralysed, brain-damaged woman at a nursing home. An X-ray found the car crash victim was pregnant. She gave birth to a healthy child. All male workers at the home in Leamington Spa, Warwickshire, were DNA-tested and the rapist identified.
