Partnership to bid for rail franchise

THE East Coast Main Line train operator out of King's Cross, GNER, is to team up with Chiltern Railways to challenge First Great Western for the right to run the railways on a lucrative new super franchise running out of Paddington.

From 2006, routes from London to the West will be run for the most part by one company. First Group was reckoned to be in pole position, but GNER, owned by Sea Containers, and Chiltern are preparing a bid for the franchise under a new name, the London & Western Rail Company.
