Plot to mint 500,000 fake £1 coins foiled

A PLOT to flood Britain with 500,000 fake £1 coins has been stopped by Italian police. O

Officers raided a farmhouse near Arrezo after a tip-off and found 3,500kg of copper-nickel and equipment to mint the bogus coins.

Police said today that the money was ready to be shipped to Britain. Two brothers aged 53 and 57 were arrested.
