Pregnant schoolgirl sues council

A girl of 14 is suing her local education authority for £50,000 after she became pregnant at a special needs boarding school.

Her mother claims Hertfordshire County Council failed to look after her daughter's welfare. She is due to give birth to a girl in October after being given a room next to a 15-year-old boy.

Despite the complaints, she is still at the school, living in a mother and baby unit.

Her mother told the Sun: "My daughter has been treated appallingly. She suffers from behavioural and learning difficulties and also has obsessional compulsive disorders.

"The boy was staying in a room next to her. I couldn't believe it. You would have thought girls would have been separated from boys."

A writ has been issued against Hert fordshire claiming the school was unable to adequately supervise and safeguard the pupil.

The county council said the claim was in the hands of its legal advisers.
