£1.4m cache of drugs seized at Heathrow

12 April 2012

Drugs worth about £1.4 million have been found by officers at Heathrow in one of the biggest seizures of illegal substances at the airport this year.

The drugs were discovered in wrapped packages inside two suitcases that had been on a flight from Amsterdam on Monday.

Officers from the UK Border Agency discovered around 33 kilos of cocaine, two kilos of heroin and two kilos of methamphetamines.

A 47-year-old British man who had been a passenger on the flight was arrested in the airport and charged with attempting to import controlled drugs.

Adegboyega Ayobami Adeniji from Hemel Hempstead, appeared before Uxbridge magistrates yesterday. Graeme Kyle, from the border agency, said: "This was a significant seizure."
