£3m for anti-knife patrols at schools

HOME Secretary Jacqui Smith today announced £3million funding for after-school police patrols in knife-crime hotspots, including areas of London.

Officers will be present to make pupils feel more secure and discourage them from carrying knives for their own protection.

"With the nights drawing in, it is particularly important young people feel safer walking home from school," she said.
