Rape victims 'should give film evidence'

Britain's most senior judge today called for juries to be shown videos of rape victims recorded immediately after they were attacked.

The Lord Chief Justice, Lord Woolf, said police stations should be fitted with hi-tech suites where interviews could be filmed for use as evidence.

He pointed to a scheme already in use in Singapore, saying it had "a vividness and instant impact which our process does not have.

"We have to have the information technology to be able to do that sort of thing."

Lord Woolf was speaking out after the controversy surrounding the trial of Australian snooker player Quinten Hann, who was acquitted of rape last week after claiming the alleged victim consented to sex.
