Rupert Murdoch 'pie' man: This is most humble day of my life

Guilty: comedian Jonathan May-Bowls leaves Westminster magistrates' court today

A comedian who hit Rupert Murdoch with a shaving foam pie today pleaded guilty to assault and said: "This is the most humble day of my life."

Jonathan May-Bowls - known as Jonnie Marbles - admitted a public order offence and assaulting the 80-year-old tycoon as Mr Murdoch gave evidence to a committee of MPs.

As he left court he echoed the words that the Australian media baron used at the phone-hacking inquiry 10 days ago. Later during the hearing May-Bowls leaped towards him brandishing a plate covered in shaving foam.

Today May-Bowls pleaded guilty to a public order offence and a new charge of assault. District Judge Daphne Whickham at Westminster magistrates' court said she was considering a community punishment when she sentences him next Tuesday.

Through solicitor, Raj Chada, May-Bowls complained he could not attend then because he had booked a holiday but the judge snapped: "He is on bail for a serious offence. He will be back here or there will be a warrant for his arrest."
