Securicor shuts down shopping site

12 April 2012

SECURICOR, the security specialist, has shut its shopping web site SafeDoor after failing to find a buyer for the business. The firm put the portal on the block earlier this year after deciding it was no longer a core business.

'Anonymous shopping is a great idea in concept but internet shopping hasn't taken off in the same way people thought it would,' a spokesman said. There were several expressions of interest but none had led to a substantive offer.

SafeDoor employs 26 people, mainly software engineers, and a spokesman said the group was 'very far advanced' in finding them jobs elsewhere in the organisation. However, should alternative employment not be found it was likely staff would be made redundant.

Securicor eSolutions, the division that ran SafeDoor, posted losses of £11.8m before interest and tax in the year to 30 September 2001.
