Star backing for art house cinema

Downton Abbey creator Julian Fellowes and veteran entertainer Ronnie Corbett are backing a campaign to reopen Croydon's independent David Lean cinema, a victim of council budget cuts.

More than 440 film fans signed a petition that was presented to the council last night.

Lord Fellowes has been a staunch supporter of the 68-seat art house cinema and was at its final screening in April.

The cinema was part of the now shut Clock Tower arts centre at the old Town Hall.
