Taliban looted national bank

Fleeing Taliban plundered Afghanistan's national bank of millions of dollars in cash two weeks ago during their hurried retreat from Kabul.

Its Taliban governor, Haji Mullah Mohammad Ahmadi, showed up with a posse of gunmen on 12 November, and took $6 million (£4.2 million).

Mahmoud Sharif, deputy head of the strongroom, said: "The money belongs to the people of Afghanistan. It was all stolen."
