Thieves target 'chocolate lorry'

13 April 2012

Police were today hunting thieves who stole a lorry containing £80,000 worth of Cadbury's Roses.

The tins of chocolate were seized when the driver was tricked into pulling over into a layby near Lichfield, Staffordshire, by two men in a car who waved a number plate, claiming it had fallen off his trailer.

When the trucker climbed out of the cab to check the rear of the vehicle, one of the thieves jumped in and drove off.

Staffordshire Police said the maroon coloured Volvo articulated lorry, registration YS02 XVK, is owned by a firm based in Rotherham, South Yorkshire, and valued at £70,000.

The car which the two men used for the hijack is thought to be a blue Rover.
Officers appealed for witnesses to the theft, which happened at 6am yesterday on the A38 near Swinfen Hall.
