Tiger Woods 'visited by child protection officer'

Woods has announced his 'indefinite' absence from professional golf

Child protection officers have visited the home of golfer Tiger Woods after allegations that he and his wife had a violent argument over his affairs, it has been claimed.

An official from the Florida Department of Children and Families visited the billionaire sportsman's mansion for a "wellbeing check", according to gossip website RadarOnline. It added that the official arrived at Woods's home with a police escort.

It is routine for a child protection officer to check the safety of a home after a suspected domestic violence incident.

Woods and his 29-year-old Norwegian wife Elin Nordegren have two children, two-year-old Sam and 10-month-old son Charlie. There is no suggestion that Woods, 33, and his wife could lose custody of their children.

One of Woods's sponsors cut its ties with him as more lurid details continued to emerge about the sportsman's alleged extra-marital affairs.

Accenture, the business consulting group, confirmed it was ending its sponsorship, saying Woods was "no longer the right representative" after the "circumstances of the last two weeks".

Gillette has already said it is limiting Woods's marketing role, AT&T has said it is "evaluating" its relationship while Gatorade, which is owned by Pepsi, has cancelled a Woods-sponsored drink. At the weekend Woods announced his "indefinite" absence from professional golf to concentrate on saving his marriage to Ms Nordegren.

There have been reports that just 12 months away from the sport could cost him around £110million in lost endorsements, tournament winnings and appearance fees.

Reports have emerged that Ms Nordegren is planning to leave Woods after Christmas because she wants their children to enjoy the festivities before she insists on a trial separation.

He was said still to be in touch with New York nightclub promoter Rachel Uchitel, 34, the first of at least 12 women now said to have been his girlfriends.
