Top candidate out as posts are axed

Rosalyn Adleman has dreamed of becoming a GP since medical school.

The 27-year-old has nine years of medical training and was considered one of the best candidates who applied for posts in north London.

But the junior doctor, who lives in Mill Hill and works in a London hospital, was turned down after the number of posts available was slashed from eight to one.

She said: "I have wanted to be a GP for ages and spent ages on the application. The interview went very well and I didn't think I'd have any problems.

"In the past, everyone who applied for posts got them, if they have the right training. "I couldn't believe it when I was turned down."

Candidates were told there were at least eight jobs available in the area where Dr Adleman wanted to work. In the end, just one candidate was offered a post.

She will now have to spend another year working in hospitals before applying again next year, or consider applying for a GP training post elsewhere in the UK.
