Tory councillor suspended for leak

A SENIOR Tory councillor has been suspended for four weeks after leaking confidential information to a newspaper.

Tony Arbour, a JP who sits on the London Assembly and is a former leader of Richmond, revealed the Liberal Democrat council refused to buy a playing field in 2001 for £1 but later splashed out £100,000 on it.

Richmond's standards committee said his actions could have harmed the authority financially. It suspended him for 28 days from Monday.

Mr Arbour declined to comment except to say "this was in the public domain and it was a matter of public interest".
