Wellington Arch set for Beethoven

Evening Standard13 April 2012

London's historic Wellington Arch is to be the setting for a unique live performance of one of Beethoven's most rousing works.

It is the first time that the memorial, by Hyde Park Corner, has been used for a public music event.

Organisers are hoping thousands will attend the concert on Sunday.

Beethoven's Wellington Victory will be played by the BBC Concert Orchestra and broadcast live on BBC Radio Three as part of their six-day Beethoven season.

A spokeswoman said: "This is a very rare 'happening'. The BBC Concert Orchestra will perform on a stage with the backdrop of the arch, which will be very stirring."
