White House evacuated

US fighter jets were scrambled as staff at the government buildings were screamed at to evacuate.

'This was no drill,' one witness said. 'We were screamed at to evacuate the building and people were running away from Capitol Hill.'

A US homeland security official said a Cessna plane had entered a restricted zone near the White House in Washington DC. Ten minutes after the evacuation the all-clear was given by a secret service officer. President Bush was not in the building at the time.
