Ansel Elgort shocked fans on Tuesday when he released a nude photo on Instagram - but it was all for a good cause.

The actor, who sometimes goes by DJ Ansolo, posted a racy thirst trap to raise money to help people during the coronavirus pandemic.

He cheekily captioned the picture, "OnlyFans LINK IN BIO," referring to a site used by people to sell naked photos or videos - The Bachelorette star Chad Johnson recently made one of his own.

But Elgort didn't actually link to an OnlyFans account. Instead, the link was to GoFundMe created by Westworld actor Jeffrey Wright to raise money to provide meals for healthcare workers and first responders in Brooklyn.

After a few hours, he deleted the thirst trap, but not before he helped raise thousands of dollars, raising more than $200,000.

Elgort, 26, posted a video on his Instagram stories to thanks his followers, saying, "I don’t know how much is from, you know, the post, but it seems like a lot of people have been giving in the last few hours."

While scrolling through the donations he said, "So thanks a lot, looks like it was worth it. Unfortunately, Instagram told me I've got to take my post down because of nudity, so I'm going to take it down. Maybe I'm going to repost the version that cuts a little higher, how about that? Sorry about that Instagram, sorry if I offended anybody, but we did a good thing."

He went on to say, "My dad took the picture by the way. He was mad and said that I needed to give him credit," referencing his father, the famous fashion photographer Arthur Elgort.

The Baby Driver actor replaced the topless picture with one of a sunset instead, writing, "sex sells better than sunsets" and urging his fans to continue donating to Wright's good cause.

One commenter joked, "I’m reporting this for not having enough nudity" and another said, "just make an actual OnlyFans you’d make millions to donate."

This isn't the first time he's ditched his shirt for Instagram. He previously posted 17 shirtless selfies in ten minutes.
