Lily-Rose Depp was the sugary sweet star of the Chanel show today as she took to the catwalk in Paris wearing an elaborate pink tulle gown.
The model brought the curtain down on a show which featured many of designer Karl Lagerfeld’s well-connected protégées, including Kendall Jenner and Bella Hadid.
Depp, 17, the face of Chanel’s latest perfume campaign, is the daughter of Vanessa Paradis and Johnny Depp.
Today’s show was a celebration of the classic codes of Chanel couture. It was restrained by Lagerfeld’s usual standards, with the designer eschewing one of his trademark lavish sets to allow the clothes to speak for themselves.
Instead, guests sat on plush sofas in an auditorium lined with a simple black mirror floor and vases of calla lilies.
This was Chanel at its best. The signature bouclé suit, presented in shades of light peppermint and sweet pink, has been recreated with more volume and a nipped-in waist paired with an oversized metallic belt. The classic Chanel pearl finds a new home on ankles as a subtle piece of jewellery.
When it came to eveningwear, Lagerfeld presented a vision of elegance that has been missing from some of his most recent collections.
Classically beautiful metallic gowns embellished with stone detailing were slashed at the back and trimmed with lashings of marabou. Geometric lace draped to create capelets.
Lagerfeld has fought hard to attract a youthful clientele to Chanel’s couture line in recent years, but this show seemed to speak to the seasoned Chanel woman.
One painstakingly embroidered metallic suit is likely to serve her well next winter, while another masterfully draped little black dress also looks set to appeal.
