London Fashion Week Men’s came to a colourful close with help from Sylvester the Cat and Tweety Pie.

The characters took centre stage in Bobby Abley’s autumn/winter 2018 collection Bobbyland: Where Everyone Is Welcome.

The London-based Yorkshireman, who studied at Ravensbourne College of Design and Communication, is known for his playful, nostalgic designs — last year he unveiled Teletubbies on the catwalk.

This year characters from Warner Bros’ Looney Tunes were the stars of the show. One model wore a neoprene sweatshirt featuring Sylvester and a bumbag with yellow feathers sticking out of it.

But Tweety Pie turned out to be safe and sound when the next look appeared: a yellow jumper featuring the canary’s face made from hand-applied marabou feathers.

Another model wore a pair of furry dungarees which looked as though they might be made from Bugs Bunny himself, paired with a silver rabbit-teeth grill and a bunny ears bandana.

Warning: this is the kind of look you can pull off only with a large dose of attitude.

Marvin the Martian was deployed in a serious comment on inclusivity — he featured on the back of a T-shirt with the slogan Legal Alien, accompanied by an e-passport logo.

It wasn’t all cartoons, however. Bright tartan played a big part, in the form of trousers and padded jackets. Shorts were styled with long sparkly socks and broderie anglaise undershorts. Baseball caps featured braided tassels with shells at the end, and every model wore a pair of Timberland boots.

While Abley’s collection might seem rather outlandish, when broken down into its individual parts, it becomes far more wearable, not to mention accessible — that Legal Alien T-shirt is already available online for £60.
