Making eyes

If you can get away with lashings of glitter anywhere it’s on your eyes, right? Well, past the age of 13 it’s probably worth sticking to the less-is-more approach. For this, dip into the new foolproof eyeshadows from Lancôme’s Hypnôse Christmas collection. Inspired by snowy winter scenes and glittering frost — rather than a Studio 54 Technicolor rave — the four Ultra Dazzling Colours (£21 each, lancome.co.uk) offer a high concentration of sparkling pigment within a rich mousse for intense jewel hues and super- easy application. Or if you want to make your lashes the centre of attention, Givenchy’s new Lash Sparkles features gold-sequined glitter in a transparent gel to give your mascara a right jolly makeover. (£19, Givenchy.com)

Under the mistletoe

Think glittery lips should be left to Lady Gaga? Lipstick Queen’s new Metals collection may have you thinking again. The brains behind the brand Poppy King has infused three of her most popular shades — nude, red and wine — with ultra-fine metallic pearls for a jewel-like finish (£22, spacenk.com), while Guerlain’s high-voltage Crazy Paris collection includes a new, plum-hued lipstick with just a hint of shimmer (£24.50, houseoffraser.co.uk). But if the thought of even a sprinkling of sparkle on your lips has you reaching for the nearest wet wipe, try a slick of Dolce & Gabbana’s new Sicilian Jewels lipsticks instead. There are four gem-like tones inspired by the jewels on the label’s AW13 catwalk — a deep ruby red, bright amethyst, golden topaz or — if you’re feeling particularly adventurous – a luscious emerald green, above. And why not? It’s Christmas. (£27 each, harrods.com)

Twinkle toes

If your allergy to sparkles is set to reach fever pitch, the best medicine is to keep it at arm’s length. Or even leg’s length. For the festive season, Nails Inc has launched The Jewellery Manicure (£80, nailsinc.com) and Pedicure (£110) to spruce up talons or toes with a sprinkling of Swarovski crystals. Choose between gold, diamond, ruby or sapphire hues for a decadant statement that lasts up to three weeks. Or head to the Aveda Institute for Katie Rowland’s more subtle Alchimie Vernis à Ongles manicure. The jewellery designer’s first foray into beauty sees her create two signature sets: sparkling jet black crystals or a combination of tiny silver pearls and diamond crystals, which the Aveda manicurists use to adorn a single accent nail. (From £32, aveda.com)
