Science: As facials go, it’s extremely scientific. After several rounds of cleansing, toning and a facial peel, a germanium wand — which looks like a hairbrush with black blobs instead of bristles — was rolled over my cheeks to “rebalance the natural ions in the skin”. Germanium, I discovered, is a chemical element usually used in fibre optics.

Results: Relaxed and refreshed all round.

Cost: £85 for 45 minutes, which includes access to the spa, with three types of sauna (dry, humid, wet) and a Scandi-style snow room.
