When Instagram was launched in 2010 it revolutionised the social media world.

Previously, Facebook has been used to share life updates with your friends and family, while Twitter was more often used to follow celebrities and for work purposes.

Instagram became a happy medium of the two. It launched exclusively as a photo sharing platform, where your family and friends could see your photos but you could also glimpse into the lives of celebrities. Now, around 40 billion images and videos have been shared on Instagram since it started.

This year, Photobox have launched their first Instagram Photography Awards competition , where they received 180,000 submissions - and the winner has just been announced.

'Ted the Poodle', shot by Darren Hall was announced as the overall winner for this year's competition and claimed £5,000 in prize money.

Hall's image was the overall winner but there were also winners in each of the 10 categories. You can see a selection of the winners and runners up in the gallery above.
