It’s not as outlandish as it sounds

Moving into a new home often means one thing: a trip to IKEA.

The Swedish furniture giant has become synonymous with sturdy, stylish, cheap homeware – and now people are naming their babies after it.

According to parenting website BabyCentre, flipping through the IKEA catalogue for baby monikers is the latest baby trend, with many of the names being gender neutral.

In view of which, BabyCentre have revealed the ‘most-eligible’ IKEA baby names, which are as follows:

  • Malm
  • Tarva
  • Stefan
  • Ivar
  • Tobias
  • Stig
  • Franklin
  • Ingo
  • Fredde
  • Sommar
  • Norna
  • Cilla
  • Malinda
  • Elly
  • Henrika
  • Johanne
  • Mata
  • Mydal

Whilst official data has yet to be released on exactly how many parents are opting for IKEA-inspired names, it just shows inspiration can come from anywhere.

Meanwhile, new parents are also eschewing a number of recently popular names for ‘cultural reasons’.

Names like Harvey and Felicia are being rejected because of their association with Harvey Weinstein and the ‘bye Felicia’ meme.
