It still has five days left to go on the clock, but a new Kickstarter that aims to sell hoodies fitted with inflatable pillows has already raised more than $180,000.

The quirky invention, if funded to fruition, could revolutionise tube and bus journeys for Londoners, allowing tired commuters and night shift workers to grab 40 winks while they cross the city.

Dubbed “The World’s Best Sleep Hoodie” by its creators, the jacket concept has a secret pillow concealed in the hood that can be manually inflated by the wearer.

The hoodie itself is made of a mid-weight, ultra-soft cotton blend, heavy enough to keep you warm on journeys, and the hood is large enough to contour to your head and sleeping surface - whether that’s a bus window or the back of an Uber.

When you’ve finished sleeping, you can then deflate and detach the hood, returning the jacket to what looks like a normal, inconspicuous garment.

The Kickstarter project was started by American clothing Hypnos, who want to help busy people catch those vital extra hours sleep we all too often neglect in favour of an extra episode on Netflix or ‘just one more drink’ at the pub.

The company say they are planning to make the jacket in both pullover and zippered styles, in neutral shades of black, white, and grey.

The project has already surpassed its initial modest target of $30,000, with pledgers signing up in the thousands to get their hands on one of the sleep-friendly hoodies.

Forget those strong coffees, London, we think you’d be wiser to invest your money in one of these.
