Cats are one of the most searched for things on the internet, with more than 25 billion views racked up on YouTube.

And with good reason - studies have shown that watching cats playfully bound around your computer screen can boost your energy levels, heighten your positive emotions and decrease your negative feelings.

Now a charity has married together the health benefits of meditation with the soothing properties of watching clips of cats at home, creating the internet’s first feline mindfulness class.

Forget Headspace and Buddhify, the new six-minute video class, dubbed ‘Karma Kitties’, marries the essential principles of mindfulness classes with cute cat video clips from animal rescue charity Blue Cross and the soothing sounds of purring cats.

Unlike regular mindfulness classes, the online class walks you through the meditation steps, while playing, sleeping and snoozing cats appear on your screen.

The idea is that you focus on the positive emotions evoked by cuddling kittens as you relax and unwind after a stressful day.

The meditation class has been created in partnership with The Mindfulness Project, to help cat lover’s attain a higher state of consciousness using tried and tested mindfulness techniques.

The new meditation trend comes after the launch of cat yoga in the capital - exercise classes that allow feline friends to roam about the room freely.
