Banana bread is facing its biggest challenge since salted caramel

2020 has been a good year for home-baking (we need these silver linings), with banana bread recipes soaring to the top of Google’s search list as lockdown leaves us in need of some serious at-home comfort.

Marks & Spencer has thrown its hat in the ring with a new recipe starring the signature Percy Pigs.

A photo of freshly-baked “Percy Pig Crispy Bars” collected thousands of likes on Instagram, with a caption reading: “Move over banana bread.”

Just distinguishable in the background is a bottle of Percy Pig dessert sauce, a clue to the first ingredient.

What’s the recipe

The decadent treats are made up of Rice Krispies and stuffed full of shredded Percy Pig sweets.

Percy Pig dessert sauce is melted with butter and mini marshmallows to form the gluing agent.

Simply mix it all together - chuck in a few more marshmallows for luck - and you’ve got yourself a guiltily delicious mesh of sticky goodness.

Then you simply stuff it in a tray and try to control yourself for four hours while it chills it in the fridge.

Technically speaking, the crispy bars do not involve any actual baking.

This has led us to conclude they do not fall into the same category as banana bread and there is plenty of room for them both.
