With the second model of the iconic Japanese supercar about to be launched, there is a great deal of interest in the successor to a model that was launched about a quarter of a century ago.
With examples arriving in the UK in the spring, the British allocation has already been snapped up, even though prices have yet to be announced.
But prices have been announced for the US market. There, the car will cost from $156,000 up to $205,000. A sterling equivalent would be around £105,000 for the base price, but obviously that does not include import tariffs and so on.
For that money you get a lightweight, handsome supercar incorporating not only a twin-turbo V6 but also three electric motors. The engine is mid-mounted with two of the electric motors mounted on the front axle, and the third between the engine and the gearbox. The transmission is a nine-speed dual clutch auto which Honda claims is ‘synapse quick’ when shifting.
Together they pump out 500bhp and 406lb ft of torque, giving a 0-62mph time of just 2.9sec on the way to 191mph.
The figures are terrific, but the price points are equally intriguing. Those prices mean that in the US the NSX is priced well below the McLaren 570S and the Audi R8. In fact Honda have said they are looking at the Porsche 911 as their price point. It should find an awful lot of takers for that kind of money.
