Looking like it’s been freshly squeezed from a tube of toothpaste, this sleek Vauxhall-Opel GT Concept coupe is set to be unveiled at March’s Geneva Motor Show.

It takes its inspiration from two Sixties concepts – the XVR and Experimental GT – yet is hailed by the manufacturer as ‘a template for future sports cars’.

The hi-tech GT Concept is a similar size to the Mazda MX-5, and weighs under 1000kg

The hi-tech GT Concept is a similar size to the Mazda MX-5, and weighs under 1000kg. Its futuristic flowing lines are uninterrupted by such old-fashioned features as door mirrors or handles; instead, it features cameras hidden the wheelarches that send images to interior screens.

Feedback from the show crowds will play a big role in the sporty GT Concept’s production future

A 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol turbo kicks out 144bhp and 151lb ft of torque, equating to a sub-eight-second 0-62mph sprint and 134mph top speed. A six-speed sequential transmission feeds power to the rear wheels.

Feedback from the show crowds will play a big role in the sporty GT Concept’s production future – or otherwise. Let’s hope it goes down well.
