The Joint

A great addition to Brixton’s growing food scene, this straightforward little place serves slow-cooked meat and sides such as barbecue wings, riblets and hush puppies from Thursday to Sunday. The 16-hour pulled pork is served BBQ or Asian-style in a vanilla and fig-infused sourdough bun (£7).

Best for craft-beer lovers

Texas Joe’s

If you like meat and beer, then this partnership between BrewDog’s beer and Texas Joe’s barbecue is going to feel like heaven. The menu is all about barbecued or slow-cooked meat — you can order just meat by the pound. Don’t miss the pulled pork sandwich (£7), or treat yourself to jalapeños stuffed with cheese and brisket (£5).

Best for monster appetites

Duke’s Brew & Que

This is home to the Beavertown Brewery (try the 8 Ball Rye IPA) as well as some of the sauciest barbecued meat. If you’re feeling daring, go for the Duke’s Greatest Hits BBQ platter (£24.95) — beef rib, pork rib and pulled pork; if you’re more restrained, settle for pulled pork sliders instead (£10.95).
