Style guru: Dan Rookwood

Our style guru on casual dress codes and Peter Jones
Dan Rookwood20 September 2013

I’m going for an interview at a company that has a casual dress code. What should I wear?

Tricky. Normally I’d advocate a suit and tie, but one of the things your interviewer will be weighing up is whether you’ll fit into the company culture. If you follow the old adage ‘dress for the job you want, not the job you have’, then you should opt for a smarter version of what you’d wear if you get the gig. Folk has started doing some very relaxed, deconstructed suiting that can be worn as separates (Vincent jacket, above, £315, folkclothing.com/suiting). Smart but not too formal. Just the job.

Peter Jones Presents

Who doesn’t love gifts from Peter Jones, you might well ask. You misunderstand me. John Lewis’ flagship is presenting exclusive capsule collections from British heritage brands Barbour, Gloverall and Private White VC. Think waxed jackets, duffel coats, peacoats and plenty of autumnal tweed. Might buy myself a present. Sloane Square, SW1
