40 of the most spectacular images of autumn in the UK

We round up the best images of autumn's golden foliage
1/40

After a summer that couldn't make up its mind whether or not it wanted to stay, autumn has certainly been a welcome antidote to those sweaty, sleepless nights of July.

With autumn, comes a drop in temperature and a change in the leaves. Although fleeting, the colours turning from green to golds, red and oranges are beautiful - and here in the UK we have some of the best autumnal foliage in the world.

To celebrate the shoulder season, before our winter coats adorn our shoulders once more, we've rounded up some of our favourite autumnal images from 2019 so far.

These images - some taken by our very own Standard photographer Jeremy Selwyn - showcase the most beautiful parts of the UK and Ireland, and provide inspiration for where to go to see some of the best forests of golden leaves.

From the River Garry in Scotland to the West Midlands, St James' Park, the Trosssachs and Liverpool, there are a number of areas across the UK where you can see autumnal foliage firsthand.
