What do you think about during sex?

Men's fantasy world: Megan Fox and Cheryl Cole
10 April 2012

If Cheryl Cole and Megan Fox are truly the world's sexiest two women, is it fair to assume that plenty of men think about one of them while having sex? Perhaps not.

A current online survey by poll site Queendom shows that men are actually thinking about pleasing their partners, while women think about nothing at all.

And, according to one poll earlier this month by Retrevo, a shopping and review site, 10 per cent of under-25s think it's OK to send a text message during sex.

Clearly their minds aren't always on the task at hand — or anything remotely related. It all got me thinking about what Londoners out there think about while getting down to it, so I went out to ask them.

SOPHIE ELLIS BEXTOR
Deano, 23, works for a record label
This is going to sound a bit strange but I like her cat-like features. I don't think about cats, I just think about Sophie Ellis Bextor.

HOW TO MAKE IT BETTER
Lina, 28 business owner
If the sex is really good, then I don't think of anything else. If it's bad, I find myself thinking about different things like, it could be better with a better person. What do we need to do to make it better? How do we stop this?

MYSELF
Andy, 29, director
I never think about anyone else, I think about myself. I think about what I'm doing.

LIV TYLER
Dom, 23, musician
There's not just one person I think of, but if I had to say anyone, it would be Liv Tyler. She's got a natural vibe. Although, that's really for my own personal use — I don't always think about someone else. If I'm in the act, often my mind just goes blank and I don't know what I'm doing.

MY TO-DO LIST
Suzanne, 27, solicitor
If it's good, the person I'm having sex with. If it's bad, I think about my to-do list for the next day. Recently it's been good, so I've been thinking about the person.

THE JOB
Richard, 29, facilities manager
I think about what I'm doing, I don't think about anyone. I just concentrate on the job.

STRATEGY
Katie, 28, employment adviser
I think about what to do next, which position to move into and my next move. It's strategy.

RANDOM THOUGHTS
Chloe, 25, temp
Most of the time I don't think about anything. Sometimes I do get distracted, though. Random thoughts will just pop into my head and then I find myself thinking: "Oh, no, stop thinking about that," and try to bring myself back into the moment.
