Peaches Geldof 'made secret visits to drug rehab clinic before she died'

Peaches Geldof made a number of secret visits to a drug rehab clinic in the weeks before she died, it was claimed today.

The TV presenter and journalist visited a clinic near her home in Kent on at least half a dozen or so occasions, according to a witness.

The development came after an inquest heard yesterday that Ms Geldof, 25, died after taking heroin.

The mother of two was found by her rock musician husband Tom Cohen collapsed on a bed in a spare bedroom at their home in Wrotham, Kent, on April 7.

At the inquest opening in Gravesend a police officer told the coroner that recent heroin use "was likely to have played a role" in her death.

Kent Police say they are now investigating who supplied the drug to Ms Geldof in an ongoing inquiry. A spokeswoman said there had been no arrests.

Ms Geldof, the daughter of Live Aid founder and musician Bob Geldof, began visiting the Maidstone rehab clinic shortly after moving to Wrotham in Kent with her family last year.

A witness who met her at the centre told the Sun that she collected prescriptions for the heroin susbstitute methadone.

He described how she wore a hoodie so she would not be recognised. The witness said : “She said she didn’t want her family or her husband to know about the drugs and it was top secret. “

He added: “She was most concerned about her husband. She said,’You won’t believe it, he’s a really straight family man. I married a really straight really nice bloke.

“He won’t understand, it would affect my kids.”

The witness says he last saw her some weeks ago saying: “She was fine, but furtive.”

Ms Geldof's death echoes the death of her mother, TV presenter and writer Paula Yates, who died from an accidental heroin overdose at her London home aged 41 in 2000.

Ms Geldof was looking after the couple’s youngest son 11-month-old Phaedra at the time of her death. She was discovered by her husband who had spent the previous evening with their eldest son Astala, 23 months, at his parents' southeast London home.

It comes as Peaches’ older sister Fifi got engaged to her partner just days after their father popped the question to his long-term partner.

The 31-year-old will tie the knot with Andrew Robertson sometime next summer, while Bob Geldof and his girlfriend of 18 years, Jeanne Marine, are expected to wed sooner.

“I think we all need a happy family event now,” a source close to the family told the Daily Mail.
