UK reports 26,750 new coronavirus cases and 61 deaths, latest daily government figures show

The UK has recorded 26,750 new Covid infections, according to the latest daily figures.

A further 61 people have died within 28 days of a positive Covid test, government figures show.

It brings the number of people who have died with the virus this week to 635 and takes the total death toll to 130,955 since the start of the pandemic.

Yesterday the UK reported 29,520 new coronavirus cases and 93 deaths.

It follows Britain marking the deadliest day since March on Tuesday this week, with 146 deaths recorded.

Meanwhile a further 46,603 first doses of vaccine were administered on Saturday and 199,584 second jabs were given out.

Nearly 90 per cent of the UK population has now had at least one vaccine jab, the government said.
