A teenage boy was seriously injured after being surrounded by a gang of thugs and beaten over the head with an object, police said.

The 15-year-old victim was treated for head injuries after being bludgeoned in a street in south-east London on Saturday night.

Scotland Yard said he remains in hospital in a serious but stable condition after the attack in Manordene Road, Thamesmead, at around 10.45pm.

Detective Chief Inspector Gary Holmes said: "It is believed the victim was struck across the head with some form weapon or object.

"We are appealing for anyone with information to come forward who may have witnessed the incident.

"When police were called, the victim was surround by a group of people. Officers would like to speak to anyone who was in the area."

There have been no arrests.
