It marked the second such tragic killing to take place in London in the space of one night - after another man was allegedly killed by a fellow resident at a care home in Hayes shortly before midnight on Monday, in an unrelated incident.
They arrived to find a 34-year-old resident with head injuries.
Despite their best efforts, he was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
A 21-year-old man who was also a resident at the facility was arrested on suspicion of murder. He was taken into custody where he remains.
An investigation has been launched by detectives from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command, who are in the process of informing the deceased man’s next of kin, said Scotland Yard on Tuesday afternoon.
A post-mortem examination is due to be held at East Ham Mortuary on Wednesday.
Just hours before the tragedy, around 11.50pm on Monday, the Met had been called to reports a man had been assaulted at a facility for adults with mental health and drug abuse issues in Hayes, west London.
Officers and paramedics had rushed to the scene in Lansbury Drive, where the 60-year-old resident was tragically pronounced dead.
His next of kin have been informed and a post-mortem examination will be scheduled in due course.
A 44-year-old man, who also lived at the facility, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder and remains in custody at a west London police station.
