A man has died and two others are seriously injured in hospital after four people were stabbed during a night of violence on Halloween in south London.

Police and paramedics raced to the scene after four men, aged in their 20s, were knifed in the same street in Croydon.

Medics found one of the men suffering from critical stab wounds in Gloucester Road shortly after 8pm and fought to save him.

He was pronounced dead at the scene sparking a murder investigation, police said.

Two other men were rushed to a south London hospital in a serious condition.

Police said a fourth man presented himself at hospital with stab injuries which are not believed to be serious.

Croydon borough police officers wrote on Twitter: “Units responding to multiple stabbings on Gloucester Road.

“Expect road closures and delays in the area. #CroydonCops.”

A spokesman for Met Police said: “A post-mortem examination will be held in due course. Formal identification awaits.

“Police are in the process of informing next-of-kin.

“No arrests have been made. Enquiries are ongoing.”

The roads surrounding the incident were cordoned off by police.
